Saurastar is an homage to the ancestral heritage of our Founding Partner.

The name Saurastar Capital was derived from a combination of Saurashtra and Star. The former is part of the Indian state of Gujarat, where the founder’s great-grandfather and grandfather were pioneering chemical engineers who founded two of India’s largest heavy chemicals enterprises – Tata Chemicals in Mithapur and Saurashtra Chemicals in Porbandar, respectively.
The “star” in Saurastar signifies the American half of our firm’s identity and our US presence, representing the Stars and Stripes of the American flag and the opportunities it has afforded us to pursue and – now – share with other families in India.
Saurastar Capital serves as a global investment bridge to/from India, and an instantiation of the link between our roots and the opportunities they unlocked for us today. The work of the previous generations helped propel Indian industry to compete on a global scale, paving the way for India to become the economic powerhouse it is today.
